RIDE-CT: 'This Old Bike' update and other biker briefs (Republican-American)

It's now disassembled and parts are scattered across Connecticut. That's only a slight exaggeration of the status this week of the 1969 Triumph T100R Daytona undergoing restoration by "Team T100." While the motor components (rockers boxes, cylinder head and cylinder block) sit on a countertop in a workshop in Falls Village, the tins (gas tank and fenders) are on a workbench in my basement and ...

T100 UPDATE: Color me gun shy about bike's paint scheme (Republican-American)

Progress waned a bit this week on the restoration of the 1969 Triumph T100R Daytona. Other than bead-blasting some foot pegs and the seat pan and attempting to clean the inside of the oil tank, there wasn't any time to work as income-producing obligations, notably a new part-time job that's requiring full-time training, took priority.

THIS OLD BIKE: Serious degunking of T100 under way (Republican-American)

A little warm weather and a heated work area can certainly make a job go much quicker and easier. A week ago, I complained about numb fingers from toiling in an unheated workshop getting "This Old Bike" torn down. I was also sweating how the frame might be surreptitiously taken to a do-it-yourself car wash to be degreased.

Bringing gauges back to life (Republican-American)

MAMARONECK, N.Y. — Sometimes progress comes in spurts. That was the case this week in the ongoing saga involving the restoration of a 1969 Triumph T100R Daytona. "This Old Bike" is slowly becoming new again. The frame's now tweaked and re-painted (basic black, thank-you), the engine is torn apart, and some rips in the metal seat pan have been welded.

It took a Village ... (Republican-American)

There's a belief among many motorcyclists that the journey is more important than getting to the destination. A week ago, I thought that the same was true of rebuilding a vintage bike; that the process of taking a rusting carcass and rehabbing it with the help of friends was more satisfying than actually finishing it.

Gauging success of the T100R rebuild (Republican-American)

The words were encouraging. "I think we're pretty much on target as long as you don't get crazy," replied Greg Bidou earlier this week when I asked him to assess the status of our ongoing restoration of a 1969 Triumph T100R Daytona.

T100 UPDATE: With spring comes renewed excitement over project (Republican-American)

Now comes the hard and nasty part — the application of elbow grease. It has been 12 weeks since a derelict 1969 Triumph T100R Daytona was removed from cold storage in a barn in Falls Village, the goal being to make it road-worthy again.

Set your DVRs for new motorcycle show on CPTV (Republican-American)

There are very few television shows devoted to motorcycling. The ones that do exist are either bike builder brawls — such as that prominent one featuring a feuding chopper family from across the Hudson River — or so filled with chrome bling and tattoos as to reinforce the stereotype of bikers.
