A walk into the park passes through a tropical hardwood hammock. In the 1920s, it was representative of the original landscape within the city of Miami. Today, it is one of the last remnants of the once vast Miami Hammock. Florida budget cuts could cost Miami-Dade, Broward schools millions (Miami Herald)

Schools will face the bulk of the nearly $1 billion in spending cuts Florida lawmakers will take this week to balance the budget, including a cut of $47 million to Miami-Dade schools and $35 million to Broward schools, according to details released Tuesday.
