Is an Orlando theme park vacation suitable for me?

from: Simon Lim

Is an Orlando theme park vacation suitable for me?

If you do not mind huge crowds, and lining up at queues, around 90,000 guests insitu or 200,000 guests passing through a day at Disney’s alone, then an Orlando vacation is suitable for you.

Is there an off peak period where there are less crowds?

The off peak periods are October to March when around 10,000 guests might pack Disney’s. However, during such off peak periods, the theme parks generally close earlier i.e. 9 am to 6-8 pm. Another factor is that during such times some rides are closed for scheduled maintenance.

When is the best time to go then?

The best time to go would be during peak periods when the parks have a longer opening hours ie. from 9am to 10-12pm. During such times all the rides will be open barring breakdowns.

When are the peak periods?

The peak periods are Christmas, Easter and June to August.

How much should I budget for my trip?

Difficult question, Discovery Cove alone is USD229 plus taxes per person (no reductions for children). Rooms at Disney’s can vary from USD205 to USD2,585 per night, and the Disney campsite starts from USD39 per night. Hence you get the picture that it can be across the spectrum from the very affordable to the very exorbitant. Disney’s has a value vacation package at USD1,500 for a family of four for 6 night/7 day. Hence around USD1,500 to USD2,500 with a family of four should be adequate for four days worth of memorable events. A leisurely one day each at each of Disney’s big four during peak season makes four days. A more compressed agenda might be four days split as 2 days Disney’s and 2 days Universal during peak season.

Should I stay at Disney's resorts?

This is a no brainer. If you can afford it, by all means stay, even though the prices are higher at Disneys resorts, it is nearer and has its advantages. Otherwise check the Choice Hotel Links at this website for value for money stays.
